(That, or hold out for upgrading the whole projector&) TL;DR: Agree that projectors are excellent for all media consumption, including gaming, and do believe they are competitive value for the cost (moderated somewhat by accessory cost to start and maintain), and have no equal for wow-factor so are great for movie and game parties. Thanks, Tim reply quote 1 day agoMark S Hi Tim - We no longer offer any projectors in your budget range that will conform to your stated geometry. Possible? reply quote 3 months agoMark S Hi Char - Absolutely possible, Char. reply quote 2 months agoDavid Great article, very informative, thanks. I find 32 db too loud. We play on the projector 3-4 times a week and watch downloaded shows the rest of the time netflix, the bay etc. Last caveat turn them off properly so you dont damage it. Low Noise Amplifier: If the TV is operating in a weak-signal area, sometimes the LNA function can improve the reception by using the TV's low-noise preamplifier to boost the incoming signal. Its connections include HDMI, S-Video, two VGA, and two 1/8" audio inputs and a 15-pin VGA video and an 1/8" audio output. reply quote 1 month agoOren Tal Hi, I'm about to start giving presentations based on a world journey of 9 years. Until recently, pocket projectors have been regarded as more of a noveltya fun consumer itemthan a serious display technology. 09/10/2015 at 10:21 TacticalNuclearPenguin says: Then theres the nature and quality of the image. Of course, you may have flexibility. I am new with projectors but I do understand is that I will need to get a projector with at least 14ft throw. The most common throw ratios are 0.5:1 and 0.3:1, with the latter fulfilling the distinction of being "ultra-short throw." Short throw projectors almost never have zoom lenses, and in many cases they use a mirror onto which the image is projected first, before being reflected at the screen. DLP uses a bunch of tiny mirrors to reflect light through a spinning colour wheel and the result has historically been the best contrast of any projector type. The UltraSlim design combines a new, more compact light engine on the inside with a thinner bezel and "hidden" speakers on the outside. However, both are very mature technologies and have largely converged.

The operative word is "theater". However, at this point, many of you will be understandably wondering, "If I'm starting from scratch, how should I know what screen size to get?" A quick, and very rough, rule of thumb is to multiply the distance of the "least-favored viewer"i.e., the person farthest from the screenby 1/5. 09/10/2015 at 10:44 iainl says: Dear Lord, I only wish I could second that recommendation of buying a proper Blu-ray player more strongly than the medium of text offers. Ambient light not only degrades the image but also alters it, potentially undoing any careful calibration of the projector or color-correction work on the image itself. Especially if the projector is just behind your head. The good news is that you do not need a large room to make good use of a projector. What is a projector? A projector may be best thought of as an inverted camera, spitting light out of a lens rather than receiving it. Good thinking! 08/10/2015 at 23:24 po says: Ive got a Benq W1080ST+ short throw projector that Im very happy with, mainly because I have a 1003 screen with it projecting across the width of my small living room. Your throw sitance is a real issue at 28'. Good games ought to transport you in time and space. 09/10/2015 at 03:00 Raoul Duke says: Well, thats just like, your opinion, man. You will lose animation effects, but at least it is reliable. Even the largest TVs are puny compared to a mediocre projector setup. Most projectors have vertical keystone correction only, some have horizontal and vertical. 09/10/2015 at 01:26 SingularityParadigm says: Recent? Plasma? I thought plasma screens had died an unfortunate early death in the marketplace? o.O 09/10/2015 at 02:12 Raoul Duke says: Nope. Stacking requires a compatible projector or using outboard hardware so the images can be aligned perfectly. Program Reserve: The television allows you to reserve a program you want to watch at a later time which changes the channel automatically to the reserved program at the selected time while you are watching another channel. Its 3300 lumens of brightness will effectively combat most ambient light, and its 13,000:1 contrast ratio combined with its 1280 x 800 native resolution will deliver clear images at most seating distances. There are actually projectors that can compensate for off-white walls, too, though I cant say Ive tried em.
